e-RUPI

e-RUPI is a digital solution launched by Hon'ble Prime Minister on August 2, 2021 to allow cashless payment solution for COVID-19 vaccination through video conferencing. The digital payment solution has been developed in collaboration with DFS (Department of Financial Services) and NHA (National Health Authority) and is operated by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

This seamless one-time payment mechanism enables users to redeem vouchers without card, digital payment app or internet banking access at merchants accepting UPI e-prepaid vouchers. The e-RUPI will be shared with the beneficiaries through SMS or QR code by the organizations for a specific purpose or activity.

This contactless e-RUPI is easy, safe and secure as it keeps the details of the beneficiaries completely confidential. The entire transaction process through this voucher is relatively faster and at the same time reliable, as the required amount is already stored in the voucher. e-RUPI has the following characteristics : 

• e-RUPI connects the sponsors of the services with the beneficiaries.
• e-RUPI is a person and purpose specific digital payment solution.
• The connect of electronic voucher takes forward this vision of good governance.
• e-RUPI is a cashless and contactless instrument for digital payment.
• It is a QR code or SMS string based e-voucher, which is delivered to the mobile of the beneficiaries.
• The users of this seamless one-time payment mechanism will be able to redeem the voucher without a card, digital payments app or Internet banking access, at the service provider. 
• It has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India on its UPI platforms, in collaboration with the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and National Health Authority. 
• e-RUPI connects the sponsors of the services with the beneficiaries and service providers in a digital manner without any physical interface.
• It also ensures that the payment to the service provider is made only after the transaction is completed.
• Being prepaid in nature, it assures timely payment to the service provider without involvement of any intermediary.
• It is expected to be a revolutionary initiative in the direction of ensuring a leak-proof delivery of welfare services.
• It can also he used for delivering services under schemes meant for providing drugs and nutritional support under Mother and Child welfare schemes, TB eradication programmes, drugs and diagnostics under schemes like Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, fertiliser subsidies etc.
• Even the private sector can leverage these digital vouchers as part of their employee welfare and corporate social responsebility programmes.
