Sports in Bihar

Bihar State Sports Council was dissolved on 31st July, 1986 and Bihar State Sports Authority was formed. Like Bhartiya Sports Authority, Bihar State Sports Council was formed in 1961. 

Important Sports organizations in Bihar

Bihar Cricket Association: This association was formed in 1937. This association organized a few cricket competitions of Junior and Senior categories. 

Bihar Hockey Association: Bihar Hockey Association was formed in 1989. Prior to this Bihar Olympic Association used to look after hockey games activities. First time India participated in Hockey games in 1928 Olympic held at Amsterdam (Holland) and won the gold medal. The Captain of Victorious Team was Jaipal Singh of Bihar (Jharkhand). Bihar hockey association looks after the activities of man's hockey. To look after the women's hockey activities, there is Bihar State Women's Hockey Association.

Bihar Olympic Association: It is the highest institution of games of Bihar. A few Sports organisations are attached with this institution. In Organising the National games these institutions plays an active role.

Bihar Football Association: This association was formed in 1986. This association organizes a few football competitions of Senior and Junior categories. Thus there are different associations of different games in Bihar e.g., All Bihar Chess Association, Bihar Amateur Athletic Association, Bihar Tennis Association, Bihar Volley Ball Association, Bihar Carom Association etc.
